To transfer your WhatsApp conversations, you need to back them up to a personal Google account on your old phone.
First, you will need to add your personal Google (@gmail.com) account to your device if you don't have one yet.
Step 1: Add personal Google Account to old phone
Settings > Cloud and Accounts > Accounts > Add Account > Google
Once done, when you go into WhatsApp to do a backup you should be able to choose what Google Account to use
Step 2: Backup WhatsApp
Open WhatsApp > 3 dots in top right corner > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Google Account > Pick your personal account > Then Tap 'Backup'.
Make sure that there is a date beside "Google Drive Backup"
NOTE: If you are using SmartSwitch, it is recommended to complete this before backing up and restoring Whatsapp, as this will transfer your Google Account for you.
Step 3: Add 2nd Google Account to new phone
Settings > Cloud and Accounts > Accounts > Add Account > Google
Open WhatsApp on the new phone and follow the prompts to recover from your Google Backup.
Alternatively, to transfer your WhatsApp data without using a Secondary Google Account, please click here to download instructions how to do this.
