This guide will show how to back up your data to SD card for easy recovery in case you lose or break your Samsung phone. It's a good idea to do this on a regular basis.
Before you start, you will need:
- The Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app whitelisted for your company/household
- An empty SD Card dedicated to holding your phone backup - we recommend a 128GB (or higher if your device has more than 128GB storage). NZ Customers can purchase a 128GB MicroSD Card from our website here
- Insert your MicroSD Card (remove your existing card if you have one)
- Install the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app (if you haven't already) - we recommend installing from a secondary Google account - see here for details on how to add a secondary Google account and here for details on how to install apps from this account
- Open the Samsung Smart Switch app, tap Agree, then Allow
- Tap the SD Card icon in the top-right corner
- Tap Turn on in the blue box entitled Password-protect backup files. Note that if you forget this password, you will lose access to your backup. Tap Back up to start the backup process
- Choose what you'd like to backup (your screen may differ slightly from the below) and tap Back up
- Set the password for your backup and then tap Continue - DON'T FORGET THIS PASSWORD, OTHERWISE YOU WILL PERMANENTLY LOSE ACCESS TO YOUR BACKUP
- Confirm the password, then tap Continue
- The phone will now copy your data to your Micro SD Card. When complete, you'll see the screen below. Tap Done, remove the SD Card (re-insert your other SD Card if you took it out in Step 1) and put it in a safe place
