The Hack
Weeks of email communications between a UBT client and their international supplier were intercepted.
An email sent from the hacker that appeared from the same suppliers email address including earlier communication with the email reading….
Please this is very urgent, we have have been informed today by our Account department that our Bank details mentioned in the previous invoice is having some technical problem and can not receive your payment today.
Please if you have not transferred the payment yet, disregard the our Bank Details mentioned in the previous invoice..
Kindly proceed the payment to our below business trading bank details:
Boldness beyond belief!
The UBT client then replied via email stating "Our company policy is that we do not adjust suppliers bank details unless we have had verbal communication from the Directors of the company"….. the hacker then called the payer to verify the email!
This customer did not follow through with the instructions.
