There is ongoing concern over phone scams targeting computer owners in Australia & New Zealand.
Callers may claim to be local NZ computer businesses or part of a global team. One scam, in which the caller claims to be a Microsoft employee, tries to convince people their computer is not secure & full of infections. The caller then tries to elicit credit card details for a payment to ‘secure’ the computer. Police are warning anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately.
If you have concerns about viruses and security etc, use the supplied antivirus. Instructions for using the ESET NOD32 Antivirus system are attached.
Also attached is a recent newspaper article on a particular scam. This is happening around the country.

A new twist on this for businesses is persons using the same tactics, but telling you your website has errors and needs fixing for search engine optimisation etc. They may purport to be a global business, have offices in NZ, give websites and references, however the style suggests more scam than business. They may be targeting people with websites based on templates.
