In another example of how volatile the ransomware issues can be, we've just seen an example of the price of de-encrypting data go much higher for no apparent reason.
An initial recovery ransom of 0.5 BTC (bit coins) was without warning advised to have been changed to 1.5 BTC (over NZ$900)
It is unclear if this is a random example, or if future infections will result in this new higher ransom.
Obviously avoiding the risk of needing to pay the ransom is the best protection - having a current and isolated backup of all your important data.
